A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT'S THOUGHTS ON CURRENT EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

I saw this interesting article about what a certain high school student thinks about the current educational system. Article link

After reading the student's article, kindly provide some comments. I have a lot of issues with the way some of these students think. Time and time again, I see high school students with "A's" fail college courses because they think they should not be doing homework. The have managed to pass their high school courses by been able to copy from friends and some because of their superior ability to memorize and reproduce the material. They are unable to apply concepts to real world problems. I don't blame him. I blame the teachers who just require students to reproduce the text. There is no challenge for some of these students so they feel bored. Our educational system should teach our young ones to be creative and innovative. Homework should be made to test creativity and application to real life situations.

I also get worried about students not taking time to think carefully during exams. They are in a rush to finish and so they make serious mistakes. Why should a student get 80% on an exam when he/she has the potential to get 100% if he/she is a little bit patient? 80% may be good to pass in some areas but if you are dealing with human lives where you cannot afford to make any mistake, that is when you know that 100% is always desirable. Our young ones have to understand that life is not just about them but it is about preparing them to be able to function well in the society at large.
